  • I had everything stolen from me. I went to the skatepark one last time and was planning on ending my life after. I saw you there, and you gave me a skateboard. It changed my perspective. I still have it to this day. Thank you.

  • I remember getting pulled from school for bad grades and attitude. I was grounded from skating and my parents got me to go to a homeschooling convention because a “skate team” would be there. And you asked if I wanted to skate in the demo. My parents always appreciated what a role model and good example you set for skaters.

  • It was at a movie premiere about skateboarding in Newport Beach in the late 2000s. I was Jay Haizlip's "handler" getting him from interview to interview on time. It was the only time we met in person, but you were our design go-to guy. I can remember contacting you to get media done for us in record time. You always came through for us!

  • I remember seeing you speak at the young professionals summit many years ago. Anyway I just remember you had the most amazing energy and you were beautiful (still are!) and just kind of radiant. And your story you shared was moving. I’m just glad that I met you. You’ve got such a beautiful big heart and I’m just happy I know you. You really are one of my favorite people!

  • I can’t remember the year, but I went to an industry thing to hear a talk about the connections we form with clients. I left that talk thinking, “ohhhhhhhh. I get it. Just treat your clients like friends.” It woke me up. I think, like a lot of people, I feel like you and I are friends even though technically we are just acquaintances. And that’s a good summary of your talk that day.

  • After years of admiring you and SecretPenguin’s design work I decided to apply for an internship. I got the gig and it was the happiest I had been in my career. I learned so much there and appreciate all the time you took to mentor me. Thanks for taking a chance on me, Dave. You set my career in the right direction.
