I had everything stolen from me. I went to the skatepark one last time and was planning on ending my life after. I saw you there, and you gave me a skateboard. It changed my perspective. I still have it to this day. Thank you.

We'd all call you, “THE GENTLE GENIUS". Every challenge we couldn’t solve, you somehow would have thoughtful solutions. Even in intense situations, you were so kind and focused on the best outcomes for all. Thank you. Always an inspiration.

At a design event at SecretPenguin. I was by myself and feeling very anxious. You all made me feel welcomed and gave me a plant!

I think we met at a silicon prairie event? How ever or because of whomever, I’m extraordinarily grateful. You’re one of the most genuine and amazing human beings I’ve ever known. Immeasurably kind and talented. You make the world more beautiful because of your presence and creations. And I’m blessed to know and work with you.

I remember getting pulled from school for bad grades and attitude. I was grounded from skating and my parents got me to go to a homeschooling convention because a “skate team” would be there. And you asked if I wanted to skate in the demo. My parents always appreciated what a role model and good example you set for skaters.

It was at a movie premiere about skateboarding in Newport Beach in the late 2000s. I was Jay Haizlip's "handler" getting him from interview to interview on time. It was the only time we met in person, but you were our design go-to guy. I can remember contacting you to get media done for us in record time. You always came through for us!

I remember seeing you speak at the young professionals summit many years ago. Anyway I just remember you had the most amazing energy and you were beautiful (still are!) and just kind of radiant. And your story you shared was moving. I’m just glad that I met you. You’ve got such a beautiful big heart and I’m just happy I know you. You really are one of my favorite people!

Robert’s skatepark! You were always somebody us younger skaters looked up to! Thanks for being you, Dave! Your life feels like a testament to what you stand for and so many people are positively impacted by your dedication to being a light in this world. All these years later and you’re still inspiring the good in so many.

You drove me to The Bay Skatepark. We had baby Olive with us and I pushed her on a skateboard. I loved our conversation.

I can’t remember the year, but I went to an industry thing to hear a talk about the connections we form with clients. I left that talk thinking, “ohhhhhhhh. I get it. Just treat your clients like friends.” It woke me up. I think, like a lot of people, I feel like you and I are friends even though technically we are just acquaintances. And that’s a good summary of your talk that day.

After years of admiring you and SecretPenguin’s design work I decided to apply for an internship. I got the gig and it was the happiest I had been in my career. I learned so much there and appreciate all the time you took to mentor me. Thanks for taking a chance on me, Dave. You set my career in the right direction.

I have awesome memories of what I believe was our first collaboration. To this day, there’s nothing like it. It was creative, inclusive, fun, remarkable and brought joy and fun to the community. I loved working with you. You are one of the very best people in my world. Thank you!

It’s my understanding we’ve never met, but I learned of your work something like 15 years ago through mutual friends and have been following along since. I’m repeatedly amazed and forever a fan!
